SW LAKES WEEKLY TROUT FISHERY ROUND UP – Week ending 26 July 2020

The brown trout fishing at Roadford and Colliford was the highlight of last week with some cracking browns being landed at both lakes. There was also some good fishing had at Kennick and Burrator with respectable rod averages for the time of year. The forecast is looking good for fishing this week so good luck wherever you fish.

Highlights of last week were:

  • Paul Wallace – 3 cracking fish from Colliford between 12oz and 2lbs
  • Mike Stone – 6 Browns from Roadford smallest 12oz, largest 2lbs
  • Malcolm Ure – 11 fish by boat at Kennick
  • Duncan Kier – 6 fish on a Kennick Killer fly from Burrator

BOATS

We have 4 boats available at Kennick, 2 at Siblyback and 2 at Roadford. Two people are now permitted per boat

Consistent Kennick. Good fishing to be had particularly by boat at the moment. Get your permits here.

Siblyback

The fishing was much harder at Siblyback last week with fishing conditions far from ideal. Its looking settled this week so should provide some really good fishing.

Rod Average: 1 fish per person
Best Bag: P Tuson 2 Rainbows of 1lb 8oz and 2 browns of over 1lb
Best Locations: North Shore, West Bank
Best Flies: bibio

Burrator

Steady sport at Burrator last week.

Rod Average: 2.1 fish per person
Best Locations: Lowery Point, Longstone Point
Best Flies: Kennick Killer, Damsel, boobies, blobs
Best Bag: 6 fish for Duncan Kier

Stithians

Some nice Rainbows and blues caught at Stithians last week and a few browns in among the rudd which were caught.

Rod Average: 1.26 fish per person
Best Locations: Pipe Bay, Goonlaze point, Dam Bank and Sailing club.
Best Flies: diawl bach, montanas, blobs
Best Fish: 4lb 8oz Rainbow caught in May by Roger Marks (late submission)

Colliford

Colliford on the dries last week! All the fish recorded last week were caught on dries including another 2lb fish.

Rod Average: 1.73 fish per person
Best Locations: East Bank,
Best Flies: Bibio, Soldier palmer, red hopper, black bits, zonker, Kate Mclaren
Best Catch: Dean Boucher 8 fish to
Best Fish: 2lb Paul Wallace

Fernworthy

Tough going at Fernworthy last week but we have seen from previous records that it can be great one week and off the next.

Rod Average: 0.33 fish per person

Roadford

Superb sport at Roadford last week. the dam area is fishing great by boat or bank. After some cracking fishing the week before with fish to 3lb 8oz last week produced plenty between 1 and 2lbs.

Rod Average: 2.4 fish per person
Best Locations: boils by boat or bank by the dam
Best Flies: squinky
Best Catch: Mike Stone 6 fish to 2lbs with smallest at 12oz
Best Fish: Mike Stone 2lbs
