SW LAKES WEEKLY TROUT FISHERY ROUND UP – Week Ending 8 March 2020

Hello everyone – it feels great that the season is off and running again despite the weather! I’m told it’s drying up next week!

We had some amazing sport on the opening weekend at Burrator, Siblyback and Stithians and Kennick was also productive last week.

Kennick

Kennick has been hit hard with the weather but the sport has been really good the last few weeks from both boat and bank. We are stocking weekly from Mark Underhill of Rainbow Valley Trout Farm. Boats are bookable on 01647 252898.

Rod Average: 2.38 fish per person
Best Locations: Laplloyds, Narrows and Clampitts
Best Flies: gold head damsels, boobies, nomads and blobs
Best Fish: 3lb Rainbow for Mr A Lobb
Best Bag: M Ure 13 Rainbows by boat

Siblyback

The fishing at Siblyback was fantastic at the weekend with 24 returns for 121 fish! The fish, supplied by Milemead, were of great quality and they were fighting like mad! Some really good fish were caught to over 6lbs. Boats are bookable on 01579 346522.

Rod Average: 5 fish per person
Best Locations: Two meadows and Stocky bay
Best Flies: Damsel, Montana, diawl bach, kennick killer, Sibly sizzler
Best Fish: 6lb 2oz for Mr Kier from Hayle
Best Bag: 17 fish for Mr D Kier from Okehampton

Burrator

Burrator was also superb! 25 returns for 103 fish caught! Say no more!

Rod Average: 4.12 fish per person
Best Locations: Longstone, pig trough bay and between Longstone and Sheepstor dam
Best Flies: Blue flash damsels, nomads, boobies
Best Fish: 4lb 14oz Rainbow for Mr S Carpenter
Best Bag: 14 fish for Paul Lee

Stithians

Stithians also started brightly with some good full bags being caught on opening weekend.

Rod Average: 1.8 fish per person
Best Locations: Pub bay and watersports centre
Best Flies: black and green lures, orange lures, cats whiskers
Best Fish: 2lb 2oz Rainbow caught by Mr Price of Marazion
Best Bag: 5 fish for Mr Marks, Mr Glanville and Mr Price
