Trout Fishing at Wistlandpound Reservoir
Wistlandpound Reservoir, Barnstaple, Devon EX31 4SJ
Wistlandpound is located on the edge of Exmoor, close to Barnstaple. This reservoir is tucked away and is surrounded by a conifer plantation which sits low in the rolling hills. Wistlandpound has gone through quite a transformation for the 2016 season and anglers can expect good sport from stocked brown trout and natural brown trout at this fishery (formerly Rainbow trout). We will be stocking Browns up to 2lbs but wild browns up to 4lbs were caught during 2015.
Wistlandpound is a favourite reservoir for the angler seeking a more natural and wild environment. At only 41 acres, the whole reservoir can be fished in a day’s session, with plenty of grassy banks and rocky points to explore. Dry fly fishing is hugely successful on this water, which has an impressive evening rise. Popular patterns include the black gnat, hoppers and daddies, while klinkhammers, emergers, and buzzers will work well all year round. Popular nymph patterns include the black and peacock spider, pheasant tail nymph and olive damsel. Black and green is a very effective colour combination on this water
Wistlandpound offers ‘Catch and release’ fishing as part of a full day or concession ticket ensuring you can have a full days sport. Barbless hooks must be used.
