Stithians Lake

Trout Fishing at Stithians Lake

Stithians Lake, near Redruth, Cornwall, TR16 6NW.

This majestic water, one of England's most westerly trout fisheries, is regularly stocked with Rainbow trout over 6lb and a large number of Blue trout. Stithians contains a good natural head of Brown trout which come alive in the summer months. In 2017 we are stocking Brown Trout for the first time during July and August to counteract the warmer water as the Browns will continue to feed while the Rainbows and Blues are less interested. Two brown trout between 12 and 18 inches can be taken as part of a bag during those two months. We have also stocked some browns in the 3-4lb range. Our trout are supplied from Milemead Fish Farm (Tavistock) and they are second to none for quality and hard fighting.

Fly fishing only, from both bank and boat (advance booking is essential to guarantee a boat). Large numbers of hawthorn flies guarantee good, dry fly fishing in the first part of the season, while the large number of sticklebacks means that Autumn fry-bashing can produce some exiting sport. Tuition is available from local instructor Gary Champion (01872 863551), who can cater for groups and individuals. The local fishing club (CAST) organises competitions and social events. Anyone wanting to join the club or their competitions needs to contact Richard Keast.

Best Flies: Montana/Viva/Buzzer patterns/Cats Whisker/Invicta.
