Trout Fishing at Roadford Lake
Roadford Lake, Devon, PL16 0JL
Set in the rolling Devon hills on the edge of Dartmoor, Roadford offers more than 700 acres of Brown Trout fishing to explore by boat or bank. There are many little bays and inlets to explore making it a very appealing. Roadford is one of the best Brown Trout fisheries in the UK and has provided outstanding fishing in the past few seasons particularly by boat but some equally good catches have been from the bank. There have been multiple catches of 30+ fish by boat in a single day. There have been numerous fish over 5lb caught and released with specimens just under 7lb in the past couple of seasons. The best sport has been boat fishing over the aeration pipes in mid-season and fishing by boat towards the bank in the early season taking advantage of the food and shelter the submerged vegetation provides. Roadford also has good hatches of Hawthorn flies in May which provide terrific dry fly fishing. Fishing in 2015 was great when conditions were right. The majority of fish are stocked at 7-10 inch but we do stock fish up to 2lbs.
We have four boats and a Wheelyboat but to guarantee boats please book at least 24 hours in advance. There is also two petrol engines for hire but you may take your own electric outboard. Self-launch for float-tubing and kayak fishing is available at Roadford – please contact the staff on site.
Why not try our special ‘Castabout’ season permit which covers all our Brown Trout waters (Fernworthy/Roadford/Colliford and Wistlandpound).
