GALE is Best of the Best Champion 2017

The 2017 Best of the Best Champion is Rob Gale who scooped the £1500 top prize. Rob was runner up in 2016 and went one better this time as the only person who caught 6 fish to end with a weight of 10lb 14oz.

It was a great day at Kennick Reservoir for the final with 43 anglers turning out, having qualified throughout the season from around the South West Lakes Trust Rainbow waters. Weather conditions were fantastic with a good ripple and plenty of fish were showing all day to keep all the anglers interested. Takes were certainly tentative as the fish reacted to the pressure of all the anglers but 70 Rainbows and 1 Blue were caught along with 20 Browns for a rod average over 2 for the day.

Paul Jones was a close second with 5 fish for 10lb 3oz and he collected £750 and Dave Perks finished third with 4 fish for 8lbs exactly winning £300. John Rumbold landed one fish but it was the biggest of the day at 3lb 7oz and he won £200 for his efforts.

Peter Runnalls and Paul Jones collected £75 each for winning the blind pairs with a combined weight of 13lb 15oz and Rob Gale and Paul Davis managed second with a weight of 12lb 15oz and each won £50.

Congratulations to all the anglers who qualified for the final and thank you to those who turned out to fish on the day.

A massive thank you to our sponsor Snowbee and to Simon Kidd for his support for this great final and throughout the year. There was over £4000 in the prize funds which is fantastic. Also a huge thank you to our marshals for the day Kevin Pearson, Kit Hancock, Mark Baxendale and Nick Coleman.

There are plenty of fish in Kennick and some great fishing to be had in the next few weeks.
