‘Kennick A’ win Snowbee team of fours after a great days fishing at Siblyback

The annual Snowbee Team event at Siblyback lake was held on Sunday 9 April 2017. 11 teams of four anglers from all over the South West gathered for the floating line competition and the majority enjoyed a cracking full breakfast from Wendy Shore in the Rock Hopper café before the opening briefing was delivered.

Anglers dispersed in pairs to Zone A or B and would fish for three hours before swapping zones and fishing the afternoon session. There was a maximium of 6 fish per angler and 5 fish per zone.
The conditions were favourable with a light ripple and light sunshine and I anticipated plenty of fish to be caught. This was true for Zone B with anglers catching plenty of fish from North Shore and Two Meadows but Zone A with stocky bay, the dam and Crilla proved really difficult in the morning session. Duncan Kier and Mike Stone from Kennick A had bagged up from the North shore within an hour of the competition starting! Mike had a cracking 4.07 Rainbow as part of his 5 fish caught on a Kennick Killer.
The wind really picked up in the afternoon and it became quite cold. The fish in Zone A still proved really difficult to catch where as Zone B fished well again with the majority of anglers catching a few fish.
The horn sounded at 4pm to signal the end of the competition and the weighing in was done before pasties and drinks were enjoyed by everyone.
A total of 101 Rainbows, 40 Blues and 5 Browns were caught by 44 anglers giving a rod average of 3.32 fish per person. There were 5 fish over 4lbs caught and another 4 over 3lbs.
The winning team were Kennick A who managed 20 of their 24 fish limit and weighed in 32lbs. Duncan Kier was the only team member to catch his limit of 6 fish while team members Mike Stone and Rob Gale both had fish over 4lbs. Team captain John Hern collected the fantastic trophy from Simon Kidd of Snowbee along with their great prizes including a Snowbee folding net each, waterproof hats, Fluorocarbon line and a day ticket for Siblyback.
Runners up were Peninsula Fly Fisheres A led by Andrew Gooding and they caught 18 fish for 28lbs and 5oz. Paul Jones and Matt Kingdon both achieved a full bag of 6 fish with Paul netting a cracking 4.03 Rainbow. They received the cracking new Thistledown line from Snowbee, some fluorocarbon and a day ticket for Siblyback.
Third place finishers were Innis A, captained by Dave Johns. They also had 18 fish for a lower weight of 25lbs 12oz with Roger Truscott getting a full bag including a 3.11 Rainbow. They all won a pair of Snowbee Blue Revo glasses and some fluorocarbon line.
The top individual bag of 10lbs 2oz was caught by Roger Truscott from Innis A and he won a Snowbee double rod tube, waterproof hat and Siblyback day ticket.
2nd best bag (not finishing in top three teams) was caught by Peninsula Fly Fishers B member Pete Kempton who had 5 fish for 9lbs 6oz including a 4.03 rainbow. He won a Snowbee single rod tube.
3rd best bag (not finishing in top three teams) was caught by Roadford Raider Ron Wilday and he caught 6 fish for 8.09 and won a Snowbee zipped bass bag and a Siblyback day ticket.
Best fish of the day winning a pair of Snowbee flip up glasses and waterproof hat was Kennick A’s Mike Stone with his 4lb 7oz Rainbow.
The Snowbee wild cards, drawn at random were won by Nigel Perrin (2 fish) and he won a Snowbee rucksack and Chris Bolt (5 fish) who won a Siblyback day ticket.
